Connect an agent to Agent Observability
Agent Observability records each LLM call you instrument as a generation, groups generations into conversations, and links each generation to its trace and metrics. This path connects an agent you already run to Agent Observability on a new Grafana Cloud stack.
Here’s what to expect
When you complete this path, you’ll have:
- Enabled Agent Observability on your stack
- Collected the API URL, Instance ID, and a Grafana Cloud Access Policy Token
- Configured the SDK with five
AGENTO11Y_environment variables - Installed the SDK for your language and captured one generation
- Found that generation in Conversations
- Exported the SDK’s spans and metrics to your Traces and Metrics data sources
Before you begin
- A Grafana Cloud account and the Admin role on the stack. Agent Observability is not yet enabled; Milestone 1 enables it.
- A working agent in Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, or .NET that you can run locally, with the runtime its language page requires.
- An LLM provider API key if you instrument your own agent or use the .NET provider helper. The first manual-capture sample on the Python, JavaScript, Go, and Java pages does not call a provider.
- A place to save the values you copy, such as a notes file. Milestones 2 and 3 each copy values you need again in Milestone 4, and the token is shown only once.
